Regional SME fair begins in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Feb 24, 2020 (BSS) – An eight-day long ‘Regional SME Products Fair 2020’ began here today (Monday) aimed at promoting local SME sector,
enhance production of quality SME products, exhibition and introduction of SME goods for expanding business, trade and commerce.

SME Foundation in the Ministry of Industries is hosting the fair at
Rajshahi Collectorate playground in association with district administration,
BSCIC, Chamber of Commerce and Industry and NASIB.

In the fair, a spectrum of locally produced SME goods including leather
products, jute-made products, handicrafts, processed agricultural products,
electrical and electronic goods, clothes, design and fashion wares and other
products are being exhibited in around 70 stalls.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed the
opening ceremony as chief guest while Additional Divisional Commissioner Dr
Abdul Mannan, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Humayun Kabir and
Deputy General Manager of SME Foundation Abu Monjur Saif spoke as special
guests with Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque in the chair.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shariful Haque welcomed the
participants.

Mayor Liton has called for collective efforts of all government,
entrepreneurs, banks and other financial institutions concerned for effective
and successful promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to bolster
the region’s economy.

He also emphasised the need for strengthening the efforts of generating
enlightened entrepreneurs in grassroots through the best uses of area based
industrial potentialities.

To this end, the government has pledged bound to remain besides the
endeavors. Liton said the country has already achieved uplift in every sector
with the participation of both men and women on its way to become a middle
income nation soon and SME is the key driver of the economy.

Earlier on, the guests accompanied by large number of entrepreneurs,
businessmen and members of the civil society brought out a colourful rally on
the occasion.

Meanwhile, the fair will remain open for all from 10 am to 9 pm everyday
till March 2.
