Bangladesh to become a hunger, poverty-free country by 2030: Kamal

DHAKA, Feb 23, 2020 (BSS) – Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today reiterated that Bangladesh would become a hunger and poverty free country by 2030 under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“With the guidance and leadership of our Prime Minister, we’ll be able to materialize our dreams of 2030 (becoming a hunger and poverty-free country) and 2041 (of becoming a prosperous developed country,” he said.

The Finance Minister was addressing the induction ceremony of the new committee of Development Journalist Forum of Bangladesh (DJFB) and the discussion titled “The role of media in development” as the chief guest held at the NEC Conference Room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

Planning Minister MA Mannan spoke on the occasion as the special guest chaired by DJFB President FHM Humayun Kabir.

The Finance Minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly to materialize the dreams of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He said that the government of Sheikh Hasina would build houses for those who are homeless.

The Finance Minister said when the AL government assumed office in 1996, the then AL government had allocated Taka 100 crore subsidy for the farmers which was a timely and courageous decision for a country like Bangladesh considering the context of that time.

He said this time the Prime Minister is putting emphasis on building houses for the homeless people, which is not possible entirely even in the USA and Europe.

He said the country would be able to fulfill the demand of the fourth industrial revolution, especially in the education sector. Quoting a report of a think tank, Kamal said Bangladesh would overtake economies like Malaysia and Singapore by 2024.

Kamal also extended his best wishes to the DJFB and its members.

Planning Minister MA Mannan urged the DJFB members to do investigative journalism assuring of providing full support from his part.

DJFB general secretary Arifur Rahman gave the address of welcome while Jatiya Press Club President and Editor of Daily Jugantor Saiful Alam, AFP Bangladesh Bureau Chief Shafiqul Alam and DJFB executive committee member Shushanto Sinha also spoke.

General Economics Division (GED) member of the Planning Commission Dr Shamsul Alam, Planning Secretary Nurul Amin, IMED Secretary Abul Mansur Md Faizullah, ERD Secretary Begum Fatima Yesmin, were present, among others.
