Shanto laments for not prolonging his innings

DHAKA, Feb 23, 2020 (BSS) – Young batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto rued for not making his innings longer after getting a good wicket to bat on the day two of the solitary cricket Test against Zimbabwe at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Shanto struck his maiden half-century and looked well set for a century but he was undone by an extra bounce of debutant Charlton Tshuma to be dismissed on 71.

According to Shanto, it’s a crime specially getting such sort of nice wicket to bat on.

“Of course, there was a good chance since the wicket is good. An the end, I am happy with the way I have batted. But I should have played big innings as the wicket was really good to bat on,” Shanto said here on Sunday after the second day’s play.

The batsman said they have executed their batting plan successfully so far, which eventually kept them aloft over Zimbabwe.

“We had a meeting before starting the innings. We have a clear plan of how we bat. The first plan was to assess the wicket whether it is good to bat or not. We realized later the wicket is good and we batted accordingly,” he added.

Bangladesh ended the second day on 240-3, trailing Zimbabwe by 25 runs. With Mominul Haque (79*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (32*) in the crease, Bangladesh is expecting a sizable lead.

Shanto believes if the unbeaten batsmen duo– Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur could carry on, they would get big lead.

“It’s difficult to say because we have to start again tomorrow. Mominul and Mushfiqur Rahim bhai are doing well. If they can continue on a good run I think we will be benefited from their batting.”
