‘School for children with intellectual disabilities in each district’

RANGPUR, Feb 22, 2020 (BSS) – Social Welfare Minister and freedom fighter Nuruzzaman Ahmed, MP, today said one school for intellectually disabled children will be established in every district by this year end.

“The present government in implementing massive programmes to ensure development of physically challenged and intellectually disabled population to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030 leaving none behind,” he said.

The Minister said this today while addressing a discussion in the inaugural ceremony of the new academic building of Golap Khan Primary School being run under sponsorship of Golap Khan Trust at Nageshwari upazila town in Kurigram as the chief guest.

He said the government has a plan to set up one school for intellectually disabled children in every upazila across the country in the future after establishing one similar school at the district levels.

“If such schools were set up here and there beyond the government policy, no government benefits will be provided to those and there is no future for such educational institutions,” he said. Presided over by Chairman of Golap Khan Trust Professor Rabiul Islam Khan, Member of Parliament from Kurigram-1 constituency Aslam Hossain Saodagar, Director of Golap Khan Shishu Sadan Bilkis Ara Banu and Nageswari upazila Awami League President Mozammel Haque Prodhan addressed the discussion as special guests.
