Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore observes Amar Ekushey

DHAKA, Feb 21, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore today
is observing “Shahid Dibash and International Mother Language Day” with due
respect and in a befitting manner.

The daylong programme started with hoisting of the national flag at half-
mast by High Commissioner Md Mustafizur Rahman while officials of the High
Commission and expatriate Bangladesh community members were present.

A special prayer was offered for salvation of the language martyrs as well
as seeking divine blessings for the continued peace, progress and prosperity
of Bangladesh, said an official release received here today.

A one-minute silence was also observed to show profound respect to the
language martyrs.

Messages from the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State
Minister for Foreign Affairs were also read out before the audience.

A discussion meeting on the significance of the day was held at the hall
room of the chancery.

High Commissioner Mustafizur Rahman paid glowing tributes to the language
martyrs and said the International Mother Language Day has now become a day
of celebration to the people of different language around the world.

He underscored the significance of the language movement in the evolution
of the national history which is branded as the first step towards achieving
Bangladesh’s independence in 1971.

Representatives from social and cultural organisations, students of
different educational institutions and a large number of the members of the
Bangladesh Diaspora are attending the programmes arranged for observing Amar
Ekushey along with their families.
