AL takes programmes marking Amar Ekushey

DHAKA, Feb 20, 2020 (BSS) – The Awami League has drawn up programmes to observe the Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner.

Awami League leaders and workers will pay homage to the language heroes after President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will pay homage by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar at one minute past midnight tonight.

National flags will be kept half-mast and black flags will be hoisted atop Central Office and Bangabandhu Bhaban and other offices of the AL across the country at 6:30 am tomorrow, said a press release here today.

Wearing black badges, the AL leaders and workers will join the Provat Feri as a mark of respect to the Language Movement martyrs.

They will to pay homage to the martyrs by placing wreaths at Azimpur graveyard at 7am. Provat Feri will begin from south gate of New Market.

Later, they will also pay homage at the Central Shaheed Minar.

To mark the day, a discussion will be held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) at 3pm on February 22.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will chair the discussion while noted intellectuals and national leaders of AL will address it.

Party’s General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has urged all leaders and workers of the party, associate and like-minded bodies to observe the day in a befitting manner.
