Prothom Alo editor gets bail in Naimul death case

DHAKA, Feb 17, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today granted bail to daily
Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman in a case lodged over death of Dhaka
Residential Model School and College student Naimul Abrar Rahat.

Acting Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaisarul Islam passed the order,
granting Matiur bail on bond of Taka 2,000.

The High Court on January 20 allowed Matiur four-week anticipatory bail in
the case, as a lower court concerned on January 16, had issued warrant to
arrest 10 people including him.

Rahat, 15, a student of class-nine of Dhaka Residential Model College, died
after getting electrocuted at a programme titled “Ki Ananda”, a function of
the daily Prothom Alo’s magazine for juveniles Kishor Alo, on November 1,
2019.

Rahat’s father Md Mojibur Rahman on November 6 filed the case against
Motiur Rahman. Rahat’s father, in his plea, alleged that the death of his son
was caused by the negligence of the organisers.
