Yasir leads East Zone’s strong reply against North Zone in BCL

DHAKA, Feb 15, 2020 (BSS)-Yasir Ali hit an unbeaten 134 to help Islami Bank
East Zone reach a comfortable position against North Zone on day two of their
third round of Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) on Saturday at the Sheikh
Kamal International Cricket Stadium, ground-1.

Resuming the day on precarious 3-2, East Zone reached 261-7 in its first
innings in reply to North Zone’s 272 before the bails were drawn.

At the outset of day two, night watchman Saqlain Sajib was dismissed for 4,
leaving East Zone further in a tricky 27-3 after which Yasir led the side’s
revival even though left-arm spinner Sunzamul Islam tormented the other
batsmen and ended the day with 5-92.

Yasir found ably support in captain Imrul Kayes who also made 76 and added
137-run with Yasir for the fourth wicket stand.

Sunzamul had Kayes caught by wicket-keeper Mahidul Islam Ankan after the
batsmen struck seven fours in his 153 ball-76 and later sparked a lower
middle order collapse.

But Yasir remained unfazed, guiding the lower order batsman in astute
fashion to take the side closer to taking a first innings lead. They in fact
are just 11 runs behind at the moment to level North Zone’s first innings
score.

Afif Hossain was the other notable contributor for East Zone on this day
with 26. Yasir remained unbeaten on 134 off 271, clobbering 13 fours and two
sixes. Alongside him, Nayeem Hasan was batting on 6.

Nayeem Hasan, earlier on day one, scalped 8-107 to help his side bowl North
Zone out for 272 amid Mushfiqur Rahim’s scintillating 157ball-140.

He will be pivotal along with Yasir on day three to help the side earn a
sizable lead.
