3rd round of BCL begins sans most of national players

DHAKA, Feb 13, 2020 (BSS) – The third round of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) which would decide the two finalists is set to roll onto the ground tomorrow (Friday).

In this round, South Zone will take on Walton Central Zone at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS) in Cox’s Bazar while in another ground of the same stadium, Islami Bank East Zone will lock horns against BCB North Zone.

South Zone at the moment tops the point table with 16.39 points while East Zone follows them with 13.06 points. Central Zone is in the third position with 9.5 points and on the other hand, North Zone is languishing at the bottom of the table with just 5 points.

Even though the national team has no International commitment at this moment, most of the national players were rested for this round.

The national players were expected to take part in this round, given the fact that they would play the solitary Test against Zimbabwe, scheduled from February 26.

After their huge downfall in the last three Tests against India and Pakistan, in which they lost the matches by innings margin, they were expected to play this round to further sort out their mistakes.

Bangladesh chief selector Minahjul Abedin Nannu insisted that head coach Russell Domingo wanted the players to take rest rather than playing in the third round of BCL, considering the fatigue issue.

Only three national team players- Saif Hasan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Nayem Hasan, will participate in the third round of BCL matches while Saifuddin after recovering from their respective injuries would take part in the BCL for the first time.
