Govt mulls to build three more int’l standard stadiums: minister

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 13, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Youth and Sports
Md Zahid Ahsan Russel today told the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that the government
has a plan to build three more international-standard stadiums in Cox’s
Bazar, Manikganj and Gazipur districts.

Replying to a starred question made by treasury bench lawmaker Md
Shahiduzzaman Sarker, he informed the House that currently, there are nine
international standard stadiums across the country.

Responding to another starred question made by treasury bench lawmaker
Adiba Anjum Mita, Russel said the government has a plan of building mini
stadium at 491 upazilas across the country.

In the first phase, construction work of 125 mini stadiums has already
been completed while formulation of detailed project profile (DPP) is
underway for building 167 more mini stadiums at 167 upazilas under the second
phase, the state minister added.

There are, however, 297 sports establishments across the country having
facilities of sports competition and training, he said while replying to
another starred question made by treasury bench lawmaker Md Mamunur Rashid
Kiron.

The government is considering increasing the facilities in the sports
establishments, he added.
