Case filed against 19 in trawler capsize incident

COX’S BAZAR, Feb 12, 2020 (BSS) – A case was filed today under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act, 2012 against 19 alleged human traffickers for the Tuesday’s trawler capsize incident near St. Martin’s Island.

MS Islam, an officer of the Coast Guard Contingent on St Martin’s Island, filed the case this morning, said Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station.

Eight accused in the case were arrested and sent to jail so far, he added.

At least 15 Rohingyas, including women and children, died and 72 others were rescued when a Malaysia-bound trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal near the St. Martin’s island on Tuesday.
