Comprehensive efforts stressed on implementing RTI Act

RANGPUR, Feb 12, 2020 (BSS) – Comprehensive GO-NGO efforts are crucial to
further enhance publicity on the epoch-making Right to Information (RTI) Act,
2009 for its proper implementation to ensure the peoples’ right to know
information.

The observation came today at the launching ceremony of a daylong
Information Fair-2020 jointly organised by the district administration and
district unit of ‘Socheton Nagorik Committee (SNC)’ on the Public Library
ground in the city.

The fair was arranged for bridging the people and service providing
government and non-governmental organisations to ensure free flow of
information and establish transparency for building a corruption free
society.

Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan inaugurated the fair as the chief guest
by cutting ribbon in the inaugural ceremony with President of Rangpur unit of
SNC Sadrul Alam Dulu in the chair.

Deputy Director of District Combined Office of the Anti Corruption
Commission (ACC) Sheikh Mesbah Uddin, District Awami League President Mamtaz
Uddin Ahmed and District Primary Education Officer ASM Shahjahan Siddique
addressed as special guests.

A total of 26 government and non-governmental departments and
organisations had set up 30 stalls on the fair ground.

Convener of the fair organising committee Dr Mofizul Islam Maantu
delivered welcome speech in the discussion moderated by Vice-president of
Rangpur unit of SNC Advocate AAM Munir Chowdhury.

Terming the RTI Act, 2009 as one of the biggest successes of the
government, Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed called for its proper implementation to ensure
free flow of information.

“If free flow of information could be ensured, good governance,
transparency and accountability would be established at all levels to build a
corruption-free society,” he added.

The Deputy Commissioner urged the officials of all service providing
government and non-governmental institutions to work with a changed mindset
in providing information to the people as dictated by the law.

In the afternoon, Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa attended the
concluding function and distributed prizes among the winners of different
competitions arranged in the fair and owners of the best stalls as the chief
guest.
