Reading book for enriching knowledge stressed

RANGPUR, Feb 12, 2020 (BSS) – Academics and literary personalities at a function today underscored the need for reading books by the people of all ages to enrich their knowledge for building an enlightened and open minded
society.

They expressed the opinion at the inaugural function of the 4th six-day Book Fair- 2020 held at the Independence Memorial ground on the campus of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) in the city.

The BRUR units of socio-cultural organisation ‘Gungun’ and cultural
organisation ‘Ranon’ are jointly organizing the fair which will remain open
from 11 am to 8 pm daily and continue till February 17.

A total of 28 stalls have been set up by different publication outlets of
Rangpur and Dhaka and other literary and cultural organisations .

A group of minor children formally inaugurated the fair by cutting ribbon
in the function, participated by academics, researchers, teachers and
students of BRUR and literary and socio-cultural personalities of the city.

Former Principal of Rangpur Carmichael College Professor Dr. Rezaul Haq
and former Treasurer of BRUR Professor Md. Mozammel Haque attended the
function as guest of honour.

Professor of the Department of Management Studies of BRUR Dr. Md. Matiur
Rahman, Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu, fiction writer Ashan Uz Zaman, writer
Masud Rana and founder President of Begum Rokeya Library Rafikul Islam Dulal
spoke on the inaugural session .

President of ‘Gungun’ and Assistant Professor Umar Farooque of BRUR Umar
Farooque presided over the function which was conducted by President of
‘Ranon’ and Associate Professor Dr Tuhin Wadud.

The speakers called upon the authorities concerned for holding frequent
book fairs in educational institutions at all levels to let the young
generations about the rich Bengali literary heritage.

Professor Mozammel Haque suggested every citizen to read books for
upholding the spirit of the great Language Movement that sowed seed of the
struggle for the ultimate national independence.

Professor Dr. Rezaul Haq said the people of all ages should read books for
acquiring knowledge to enlighten them to build a progressive nation with the
spirits of the War of Liberation.
