3,600 meters of Padma Bridge visible as 24th span installed

SHARIATPUR, Feb 11, 2020 (BSS) – The 24th span of the much-awaited Padma
Multipurpose Bridge was installed today at the Zazira point in Shariatpur
district, making 3,600 meters out of total 6.15kms of the main structure of
the bridge visible.

“The 150-meter long span ‘3-F’ was installed on the pillar no. 30 and 31
at the Zazira point around 1:00 pm”, said Engineer Humayun Kabir of the
bridge project.

The work to take the span near the pillars by ‘Tian-E’ crane at Zazira
point from Munshiganj’s Kumarbhog Construction Yard started at around 9am, he
said.

With the installation of this span, total 24 spans out of 41 were
installed in phases. The rest will be installed by July next, the official
added.

So far, the physical progress of the main bridge is 86 percent, as the
construction work is progressing rapidly, said Project Director of Padma
Multipurpose Bridge Md Shafiqul Islam.

The Padma Bridge project has witnessed an overall progress of 77
percent, he added.

According to experts, the national economy is expected to witness 1.2
percent GDP growth rate, while 0.84 percent poverty will be reduced every
year after completion of the bridge to be built with an estimated cost of
Taka 30,193.39 crore.
