HC issues rule over bail of ACC director Basir

DHAKA, Feb 11, 2020 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain in two weeks as to why the court shall not grant bail to suspended director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Khandaker Enamul Basir in a graft case.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order today, said deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on July 16, 2019, filed the case with its Dhaka district coordination office-1 under the Money Laundering Prevention Act against Basir and suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman.

Basir was arrested on July 22 and Dhaka Senior Special Judge court sent him to jail the next day.

Both Basir and Mizanur were suspended from their respected agencies after the allegations of taking and giving bribes were lodged against them.

Mizanur leaked a couple of audio clips, saying he gave Taka 40 lakh as bribe to Khandaker Enamul Basir to suppress the graft allegations brought against him.
