Central Zone trumps Tanbir’s 177 to register first victory in BCL

DHAKA, Feb 10, 2020 (BSS)-Walton Central Zone clinched their first victory
in ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), edging North Zone past by six
runs in a thrilling encounter at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on
Monday.

Central Zone’s victory looked imminent when they reduced North Zone to
156-5 on day three after setting a winning target of 330. But Tanbir Hyder
made the contest a competitive one with an epic 177 on final day.

Despite lacking support from others, he single-handedly drove the side and
almost clinched it before Mukidul Islam removed him as the last batsman when
North Zone was seven runs away from the victory.

Tanbir’s dismissal meant, North Zone finally was bowled out for 323.
Tanbir struck 20 fours and one six in his 307-ball knock.

The second highest runs of North Zone came from the willow of Mushfiqur
Rahim who made 38. That showed how one-man show the game was. Skipper Naeem
Islam scored 29 while Mahidul Islam Ankan contributed 23.

Pacer Shahidul Islam was the top wicket-taker for Central Zone with 3-78
while Mukidul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Shuvagata Hom took two wickets
apiece.

Earlier, Shuvagat Hom’s 122 helped Central Zone post 325 before being all
out in the second innings and set a 330-run target for North Zone. He was
adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance.

Central Zone was bowled out for paltry 170 in its first innings but still
gained a four-run lead by dismissing North Zone for 166 runs.

After losing this game, North Zone remained win-less in the tournament.
They have drawn their first game against South Zone in the first round game.

Walton Central Zone lost their first game to Islami Bank East Zone by an
innings and 9 runs margin after Tamim Iqbal struck a sublime 334. But they
now bounced back from their disappointing loss to register their first
victory.
