ISSF int’l Solidarity Archery to begin Feb 22

DHAKA, Feb 10, 2020 (BSS)- The fourth ISSF International Solidarity
Archery championship will be held from February 22-28 at Shaheed Ahsan Ullah
Master Stadium in the city’s Tongi.

Talking to BSS today (Monday), Bangladesh Archery Federation general
secretary Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal said so far have received entry of 30
countries to take part in the championship but we are expecting participation
of 25.

He informed that they are going to host the tournament in Dhaka for the
fourth successive times and Bangladesh have been maintaining their supremacy
except the third edition by becoming runners-up.

When asked about the expectation from the fourth edition, Rajib said
this time they are also expecting to become champions.

Earlier, in the third edition, about 150 male and female archers drawn
from 26 countries took part in the championship. In the battle of 10 gold
medals in Recurve and Compound divisions Bangladesh secured two gold, three
silver and four bronze medals to finish runners-up after their giant neighbor
India.

The main aim to stage the competition would be to build Bangladesh’s
image all over the world and to cement the bond of friendship among the
participating nations.

The championship would also open the door for Bangladesh archers to
enrich their international experience as well as sharing the latest skills
and techniques to develop them into international reputed archers.

Earlier, in the first ISSF international Solidarity Archery
championship, Bangladesh dominated the medal tally as the host secured
highest number of nine medals including six gold, one silver and two bronze
medals. Before emerging champions for the second consecutive times in the
next edition of the championship by winning five gold, five silver and one
bronze medals.
