DUJ submits 7-point demand to Information Minister

DHAKA, Feb 9, 2020 (BSS)- Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) leaders today submitted a seven-point demand to the government, including taking measures to stop attacks on journalists while performing duties.

They submitted their demands to Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at his Secretariat office here.

DUJ President Abu Zafar Surya and General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury and other DUJ leaders were present on the occasion.

Their demands included taking actions against those who involved with harassing and torturing journalists during the days of the Dhaka city polls, providing treatment to wounded journalists by the government and compensation to them, unconditional withdrawal of cases filed against the journalists during performing duties, seeking more responsible role from police personnel to stop journalist harassments by policemen and forming a committee comprising police men and journalists to stop harassment, completing the trials of the Sagar-Runi murder case and other journalists killings cases immediately and ensuring professional safety of journalists.

The information minister assured the DUJ leaders of considering their demands with importance.
