DHAKA, Feb 9, 2020 (BSS)- Brushing aside BNP’s threat to wage anti-
government movement, Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Mohammed Nasim today
said AL is not afraid of such threats and if any quarter resorts to
destructive activities in the name of movement will be thwarted at any cost.

“We are not afraid of BNP-Jamaat movement… because they would not able
to do anything by waging movement. We want to uphold the victory of Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina and take the country ahead under her dynamic
leadership,” he said at a memorial meeting of former AL presidium member
Suranjit Sengupta at the Jatiya Press Club here, said a press release.

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organised the meeting marking the third death
anniversary of Suranjit Sengupta with its adviser and cultural personality
Syed Hasan Imam in the chair.

“Befitting reply will be given if destructive activities such as arson
attacks are carried out in the name of movement. The law enforcers will not
sit idle,” Nasim said, adding that they would take all-out measures to ensure
safety and security of the life and property of the people.

Recalling the activities of Suranjit Sengupta, the AL Presidium Member
said he was a popular political leader, a veteran freedom-fighter and a
farsighted organiser.

Suranjit Sengupta was one of the leading composers of the constitution of
Bangladesh and he maintained a dramatic style while delivered speeches that
attacked people of all levels, said Nasim, also the spokesperson of central
14-party alliance.

About the elections to Dhaka south and north city corporations, he urged
the two newly mayors to start work to keep Dhaka clean and mosquito free.

Advocate Quamrul Islam said BNP is failing to free Khaleda Zia from jail
because of the internal conflict of BNP-backed lawyers.

Among others, AL leaders Dilip Roy and Advocate Baloram Poddar, noted
singer of Swadhin Bangla Beter Kendra Rafiqul Alam and Bangabandhu
Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarkar Rana also spoke on the
occasion.
