Govt remains tough against fake medicine: Minister

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 09, 2020 – (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malik, MP, today informed the House that the incumbent government remained tough against production and marketing of fake medicine in local markets considering the safety of public health interest.

“The government is very tough against the manufacturing of fake drugs and its marketing as the interest of the public health are concerned,” the minister said, responding to the question of treasury bench member Benzir Ahmed from Dhaka-20 constituency, during the question and answer session in the parliament (Jatiya Sangsad).

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury chaired the session in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The minister added: “The concerned authority, including drug administration and the law enforcement agencies, is continuously conducting its necessary drive against the adulterated and fake drugs.”

Besides, the enactment of time-befitting new laws, keeping with tough punishment provision, Zahid said, is on progress.

Replying to query of Begum Gloria Jhorna Sarker of women reserved seat-30, the health minister told the parliament that there are about 50,500 differently-abled children in the country.

All government’s hospitals or complexes have no separate unit for them (differently-abled) children but those children are scheduled to get special priority at all treatment centres, he mentioned answering the question.

Answering to the question of Syeda Johora Alauddin of women reserved seat -36, he said the government has a plan to set up medical college at all districts based on its total population, geographical situation, necessity and public importance.

“We are trying to ensure quality education in all medical colleges across the country,” the minister added.
