Four killed in bus-train collision in western Russia: media

MOSCOW, June 10, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – Four people were killed Sunday after a
bus and a freight train collided in western Russia’s Orel Province, local
media reported.

The accident took place Sunday morning at a regulated railway crossing 20
km south of the city of Orel, the administrative center of the province, when
the train hit the passing bus.

The bus was reportedly carrying members of local bands, who were on their
way to attend the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of
the Orel administrative district.

Some 12 people were hospitalized with various injuries, some in serious
condition, RIA Novosti news agency quoted Olga Berdnikova, a representative
of the regional department of Russia’s Investigative Committee, as saying.

An investigation is underway, and criminal proceedings have been instituted
for “violations of traffic rules and vehicle operation” and “performance of
work and provision of services that do not meet the safety requirements,”
Berdnikova said.
