Promoting food safety governance in poultry sector stressed

RANGPUR, Feb 7, 2020 (BSS) – Experts at an assessment meeting have
stressed on strictly following the laws and business regulations concerned to
promote production of hygienic and healthier poultry birds, eggs and meat for
meeting nutrition of population.

They laid significance on providing training, latest technology and
assistance to poultry bird farm owners, farmers and common people for
accelerating hygienic growth of the poultry sector also to cut poverty.

They viewed this at the “Food Safety in the Poultry Sector and Complain
Management Affairs Assessment Meeting’ held at conference room of Rangpur
divisional office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection
on Thursday afternoon.

Rangpur district unit of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) with
the assistance of the divisional office of the Directorate of National
Consumer Rights Protection organised the event.

Assistant Deputy Directors of the Directorate of National Consumer
Rights Protection from all eight districts of Rangpur division, poultry bird
farm owners and feed suppliers, representatives of poultry medicine producers
and traders and poultry traders took part the meeting.

Director General of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights
Protection Bablu Kumar Saha attended the meeting as the chief guest with
President of Rangpur district unit of CAB Abdur Rahman in the chair.

Deputy Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights
Protection for Rangpur division Khondker Mohammad Nurul Amin, its Deputy
Directors Md. Jahangir Alam and Masum Pervin and Rangpur Sadar Upazila
Livestock Officer Dr. ASM Sadekur Rahman addressed as special guests.

Project Coordinator of the Issue-based Project on Food Safety Governance
in Poultry Sector of CAB Rezaul Karim discussed the ongoing project
activities to ensure production and marketing of healthier and hygienic
poultry birds.

The experts discussed the latest technologies for proper rearing and
feeding of poultry birds, supplying poultry medicines and poultry feeds,
combating diseases, vaccination, caring eggs during breeding of chicks and
marketing of poultry products.

The chief guest said the poultry sector has achieved laudable success in
producing hygienic chicken eggs and meat adopting latest scientific
technologies and maintaining maximum safety to meet nutritional demand of the
population.

“The Department of Livestock Services, Directorate of National Consumer
Rights Protection and district administrations should make the people aware
of the Consumers’ Right Protection Act, 2009 and Fish Feed and Animal Feed
Act, 2010,” he said.

He urged all stakeholders concerned for properly following the related
laws and business regulations to promote safe food governance in the poultry
sector.
