DU demands withdrawal of DLitt degrees of 3 Pakistanis

DHAKA, Feb 6, 2020 (BSS) – Teachers and students of Dhaka University
today demanded withdrawal of the honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) degree
from former Pakistani autocrat ruler Ayub Khan, President Iskandar Mirza and
Khawaja Nazimuddin.

The demand came from a sit-in programme in front of Anti-Corruption Raju
Memorial Sculpture organised by teachers and students of DU’s linguistics
department.

The protesters described the three Pakistanis as oppressors and enemies
of the country and said the DU authorities should withdraw the honorary
degree of them as they played heinous role during the Liberation War.

The university had conferred the honorary degree to them before the
Liberation War.
