Bangabandhu initiated steps to ensure rights of country’s women: Indira

SYLHET, Feb 6, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira today termed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as father of all the women in the country, who lost their fathers, as he first took initiatives to ensure proper rights of women.

“He was the first person in Bangladesh, who took initiatives to give women of the country their righteous position and proper respect,” she said addressing a reception at Kobi Nazrul auditorium, here.

Mentioning that Bangabandhu played the role of a guardian for the women, who had lost their parents or family, he said, “Following his footsteps, his worthy successor Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is making an unprecedented contribution towards women empowerment in the country”.

The ceremony was organised by Department of Women’s Affairs and Sylhet’s Divisional Commissioner’s Office to honor the women from grassroot level for their contribution to various fields.

The ceremony was presided over by Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Md
Moshiur Rahman.

Shamima Akter Khanam, MP, Syeda Zohra Alauddin, MP, former MP Jebunnesa
Haque, Women and Child Affairs Secretary Kazi Rowshan Akhter and Women
Affairs Department General Director Parveen Akhtar spoke, among others, were
present at the function.

After the award ceremony, Indira visited One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at
Sylhet MAG Osmani Hospital, Sylhet Children’s Academy and Women’s Aid Centre.
