Five witnesses testify in publisher Dipon murder trial

DHAKA, Feb 5, 2020 (BSS) – Five new witnesses today testified in the
case lodged over murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipon in 2016.

The five witnesses are – graphics designer Shishir Ahmed Rubel of Utsho
Prokashoni of Aziz Super Market, proofreader Shafik Hasan, Aziz Super
Market’s security guard Masud, manager of Antor Restaurant of the market
Jahid Hossain and manager of Nitya Upohar shop in the market Rana Barua.
After their testimony, defence counsels cross-examined them.

Judge Mujibur Rahman of Anti-Terror Tribunal then adjourned the hearing
till February 20.

The tribunal on October 13, 2019, framed charges against eight members
of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) in the case.

The tribunal on March 19, 2019, accepted the charge sheet filed in the
case and issued arrest warrants against fugitive accused ABT leaders sacked
army Major Syed Ziaul Haque and Akram Hossain.

Investigation officer and detective branch assistant police commissioner
Fazlur Rahman on November 15, 2018, submitted the charge sheet against the
eight accused.

The accused are sacked Army Major Ziaul Haque, Moinul Hasan Shamim, Md
Abdus Sabur, Khairul Islam, Md Abu Siddique Sohel, Md Mozammel Hossain
Saimon, Md Sheikh Abdullah and Akram Hossain alias Hasib.

Of the eight, six already have given confessional statements in the
case.

Jagriti Prokashoni publisher Dipon was hacked to death at his Aziz Super
Market office on November 31, 2016. His wife Rajia Rahman filed the case on
that day with Shahbagh police station.
