Ishraq’s PS remanded over Tikatuli shooting
DHAKA, Feb 05, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed Ariful Islam,
personal secretary of BNP’s mayoral candidate for recently held Dhaka South
City Corporation (DSCC) polls Ishraq Hossain, on one day remand in a case
lodged over shooting at Awami League polling camp in capital’s Tikatuli area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Millat Hossain passed the order as police
produced the former leader BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatradal, before
the court and pleaded to place him on seven-day remand.
Police on January 30 arrested Ariful from Mohanagar Project area under
Hatirjheel Police Station and recovered foreign-made pistol and 50 bullets
from his possession.
According to court documents, a campaign rally of Ishraq was going through
RK Mission road area around 12:50 pm on January 26. As it reach in front of a
polling camp of Awami League candidates, BNP activists suddenly attacked
their opponents. Ariful, who was seen wearing a helmet, started shooting at
them. He shot seven rounds of bullets at the activists of Awami League,
police said.
