Newly-elected councilor sent to jail for assaulting cop
DHAKA, Feb 04, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sent newly-elected
councilor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) ward-23 Sakhawat Hossain
Shawkat to jail in a case filed for assaulting a police officer.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order
as police produced Shawkat before court and pleaded to keep him behind bars.
Shawkat was arrested earlier today under the case filed with Khilgaon Police
Station.
Shawkat, also the general secretary of ward-23 Awami League was elected as
ward councilor in the recently held city polls.
The case was filed against him on Monday for assaulting an inspector of
police’s special branch (SB).
