Seminar on young entrepreneurs held in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, June 10, 2018 (BSS)- Substantial and sustainable promotion of
private sector investment can be the crucial means of bolstering economic
activities of Rajshahi region along with improving its people’s living and
livelihood condition.

Emphasis should be given to removing the existing obstacles in the field
of private sector investment towards encouraging the entrepreneurs for
investment here.

The views were expressed at a seminar by some speakers who urged the
entrepreneurs to flourish their business through investment in the region as
it has enormous prospects in this field.

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) organized the seminar
titled “Creation of Young Entrepreneurs in Bangladesh: Challenge and
Prospects” at a city restaurant on Saturday evening.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman addressed the seminar as
chief guest with BIDA Executive Member Nabhash Chandra Mondal in the chair.

Deputy commissioner of Rajshahi SM Abdul Kader, president of Rajshahi
Chamber of Commerce Industries Md Muniruzzaman and social worker Shaheen
Akhter spoke as special guests. BIDA Divisional Director Ataul Gani welcomed
the participants.

During his keynote presentation, Dr Abu Hassan, assistant professor of
Barendra Government College, gave an overview of the country’s investment
situation.

He said a qualitative development of infrastructure would be one of the
major challenges for the country to get sufficient local and foreign
investment needed to attain its desired goal.

Besides, enhancing the government’s project implementation capacity,
creating skilled workforce and ensuring transparency should also get
priority, he added.

Commissioner Nur-Ur-Rahman said the entrepreneurs should come forward
towards quantitative and qualitative investment here for meeting the
gradually mounting demands of various consumer products.

He said there is no alternative to reduce the existing gap between the
investments of public and private sectors to attain the cherished goals.
Chamber President Muniruzzaman called upon the government to flourish the
industrial sector in Rajshahi aimed at infusing dynamism into its economic
activities.

He urged the government to provide 10 percent incentives to the
entrepreneurs who are interested to set up industries here.

Reviewing the existing problems with regard to setting up local
enterprises and possible solutions to those, he sought cooperation of all the
authorities concerned for flourishing industrial sector. He dwelt on various
issues like trade and business, industry, agriculture, power supply, import
and export, SME development and expansion and bank interest rate.

Nabhash Mondal told the meeting that BIDA is all set to go for one-stop
service (OSS) within a shortest possible time.
