Gendaria AL leaders get bail in journo assault case

DHAKA, Feb 3, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today granted bail to Gendaria
thana Awami League vice-president Enamul Haque Enu and its general secretary
Rupon Bhuiyan, Enu’s brother, in a case lodged over assaulting a journalist.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Millat Hossain passed the order
after holding hearing their bail pleas.

According to the case documents, on January 19, cadres of Enu and Rupon
swooped on Al Amin, a cameraperson of private TV channel DBC, and beating him
black and blue as he was recording the incident when the brothers were
produced before court in a graft case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission
(ACC).

The attackers smashed his camera and snatched Taka 20 thousand and a
mobile phone from Al Amin. Policemen present on the scene and managed to
catch one of the culprits. Later, DBC reporter Liton Mahmud filed the case
with Kotwali Police Station. Enu and his brother Rupon were arrested from
Keraniganj on January 13 as they were planning to flee to Nepal via India by
using passport made under false names.

According to Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the brothers were
the kingpins behind introducing casino business in Bangladesh. They used to
bring casino materials from Nepal and supplied those to the buyers here
across the country.

They own a total 22 buildings and plots in the capital and have Taka 19
crore in different bank accounts. In September, 2019, law enforcing agencies
recovered more than Taka five crore of black money from their houses.
