National Food Safety Day observed

DHAKA, Feb 02, 2020 (BSS) – National Food Safety Day-2020 was observed today across the country with a vow to ensure safe food for all on the Mujib Year, the birth centenary celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

This year’s theme of the day was “Sobai Mele Hath Melai, Nirapod Khaddo Nishchit Chai (Put Hands Together, Ensure Safe Food), an official release said.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion, urging all to join the movement for ensuring production of safe food to save life and health, and also the import and marketing of safe food.

Bangladesh Food Safety Authority took elaborate programmes marking the day throughout the country to raise public awareness for safe food including holding discussions and rallies and conducting mobile courts.

Marking the day, a discussion was held at the auditorium of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the city where Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder was present as the chief guest.

With Food Secretary Dr Mosammat Nazmanara Khanum in the chair, the discussion was addressed, among others, by State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Md Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru as the special guest.

Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) Chairman (In Charge) Mahbub Kabir, Directorate of Food Director General Sarwar Mahmud and officials of Food Ministry, BFSA, Food Directorate and Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) were also present there.

A colorful rally led by Food Minister was brought out from Shilpakala Academy in the city and ended in front of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock joined the rally.
