Comprehensive efforts stressed to ensure safe food

RANGPUR, Feb 2, 2020 (BSS) – Experts at a discussion today laid emphasis on
engaging comprehensive efforts to eliminate marketing of unsafe foods to save
people from cancer, kidney diseases and disability.

They put emphasis on successful implementation of wide range activities of
the government for the development of public health and sanitation systems to
build a healthier nation by ensuring the availability of safe foods.

They expressed the views at a post-rally discussion jointly organised by
the district administration and Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) at Rangpur
City Bazaar Traders’ Association office room in observance of the National
Food Safety Day- 2020.

The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, the Directorate of National
Consumers Rights Protection, Department of Food and Consumers Association of
Bangladesh extended assistance in observance of the day.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa led the huge rally and
addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Md Asib
Ahsan in the chair.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir, Secretary of
RpCC Rashedul Kabir, District Controller of Food Md. Abdul Kader, District
Livestock Officer Dr. Shah Jamal Khondker, Assistant Director of the
Department of National Consumer Rights Protection for Rangpur Afsana Pervin,
General Secretary of city Awami League Tushar Kanti Mandal, President of
Rangpur City Bazar Traders’ Association Alhaj Md Mostafa Kamal addressed as
special guests.

Afsana Pervin stressed the need for creating awareness to ensure strict
enforcement of the ‘Safe Food Act 2013′ and Consumers’ Right Protection Act,
2009 to ensure the rights of consumers to safe food free from adulteration,
poisoning and contamination.

The chief guest urged traders and consumers to become aware of the severe
consequences of marketing and consumption of adulterated foods and work with
patriotic zeal in running food businesses.

“Everyone must avoid unsafe food,” he said and urged all concerned for
establishing modern technology-based food management systems to ensure
production, marketing and consumption of safer foods.
