All districts to be brought under rail network: Sujan

CHITTAGONG, Feb 2, 2020 (BSS) – Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said here today that all districts of the country would be brought under the rail network in phases.

“Bangladesh Railway (BR) is itself a full-fledged entity and it has its own schools, colleges, and security force,” he said while speaking as the chief guest while inaugurating a two-day 41th annual sports competition at Polo Ground here.

The minister said the government has undertaken many projects to develop the Bangladesh Railway, aimed at turning it into a developed entity in line with the Prime Minister’s advice for establishing a balanced communication system in the country.

He said two out of ten mega projects, including the Padma Bridge Railway Connectivity and Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar project, are now under implementation.

Sujan said upgradation works of double line dual gauge on Dhaka-Chattagram route is going on in full-swing, adding, “Double line dual gauge on Dhaka-Chattagram will be completed after upgradation of Akhaura-Laksam section.”

Besides, design work is going on for introducing high speed train from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar route via Chattagram, the minister said.

Director General of BR Md Shamsuzzaman, East Manager Md Nasir Uddin and officials and employees were present, among others.
