Second positive case of Coronavirus patient reported in Kerala: Indian health ministry

NEW DELHI, Feb 2, 2020 (BSS) – The second positive case of Novel Coronavirus patient, has been reported in Kerala again, three-days after the southern Indian state reported country’s first case of the infectious disease, according to a union health ministry statement issued here this morning.

“The patient has tested positive for Novel Coronavirus and is in isolation in the hospital…The patient has a travel history from China,” the statement said adding that the ‘patient is stable and is being closely monitored’.

However, the first case of Coronavirus infection was also reported in Kerala on Thursday. The first infectious patient was a female student studying in Wuhan University in China.

Earlier, the World Heath Health Organization (WHO) declared global health emergency following outbreak of the deadly Novel Coronavirus infections that has already claimed over 300 lives only in China.

It has also spread to more than 20 countries across the globe during the last few weeks and there have been more than 100 infections reported there, media reports said.

In Kerala, over 1,700 people are under surveillance at their homes for possible exposure to the virus while 70 people are being monitored in isolation wards across the state.

In the backdrop of the outbreak of the deadly disease in Wuhan, China, the India’s union health ministry had also asked people, who have a travel history to China since January 1 to report at the nearest health facility if
they experienced any symptoms such as fever, cough or breathing trouble.

Over 52,000 passengers from 326 flights have been screened for novel coronavirus at various airports across the country till Saturday, according to official data revealed here. Of the total, 97 symptomatic travelers have been referred to isolation facilities.

Earlier this morning, the second flight of Air India Airlines landed at Delhi with 324 Indians locked down in Wuhan, the epicenter of Coronavirus. The first Air India flight, a specially-prepped Boeing 747, brought back 324 Indians stranded in the city on Saturday.
