CEC happy over election atmosphere

DHAKA, Feb 1, 2020 (BSS) – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda
said he is satisfied with the overall election atmosphere as voters are
positive about the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

“The overall environment for the election is peaceful . . . I am
satisfied. Voters are positive about the EVM,” said the CEC while talking to
journalists after casting his vote at 11:05am at the polling centre of I.E.S
School and College of Sector-5, Uttara.

Replying to a question, the CEC said balloting will be stopped if
situation of a centre goes out of control.

The CEC said he did not receive any direct complaint that agents are being
driven out. If polling agents are driven out or harassed, the agents
concerned should ask for assistance from presiding officers and members of
law enforcement agencies, he told reporters.

Mentioning that voters’ turnout till then was not satisfactory, he
expressed hope that it would pick up soon.
