Mental adjustment is key to success in Test cricket: Soumya

DHAKA, Jan 29, 2020 (BSS)-Bangladesh all-rounder Soumya Sarkar emphasized
on adjusting them mentally with the red ball cricket ahead of the first Test
against Pakistan, slated to begin on February 7 at Rawalpindi.

The Bangladeshi players have been in T20 mode right at this moment as they
have played the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) for more than
one month before playing a three-match T20 series in Pakistan in the first
phase of the tour.

So it was kind of tougher job for them to get them into the Test mode.

The players however would get the first round of Bangladesh Cricket League
(BCL), scheduled to start on January 31, ahead of the first Test against
Pakistan.

According to Soumya, even though the match practice is crucial to prepare
them for the Test match, what is more important is to adjust them with red
ball cricket psychologically.

“It is good to have practice and the match practice is really helpful. The
players who will go to Pakistan for the Test, the match practice is crucial
for them,” Soumya said here on Wednesday.

“We won’t get enough opportunity to practice ahead of the Test but playing
a match in BCL would be helpful. However what is important is to adjust with
red ball cricket psychologically. And if you can adjust with red ball cricket
mentally, it will be more helpful than two-day practice session or match
practice.”

“Everyone was in T20 mode. So when you will play Test cricket straight
from the T20 cricket, you may feel it differently. It would have been better
if we have enough practice sessions but since there is no chance for enough
practice, there is no need to think about it. We have to think positive way
and that’s important.” Soumya who is drafted into the Walton Central Zone
this season said he would try to perform well in the first round match of BCL
in a bid to gain some confidence ahead of the Test match.

“When you will perform in the match, it will give you some confidence. But
over thinking of performance would create pressure. That’s why it’s better to
give my best and try to do something good for the team,” he remarked.

Since the BCL is four-team tournament and all of the teams are boasted
with the national players, Soumya said the tournament would be competitive.

“Since every team is boasted with the national players, I think it would
be competitive tournament,” he concluded.
