Govt forms monitoring teams to keep rice prices at tolerant level

DHAKA, Jan 29, 2020 (BSS) – The government has formed seven special
monitoring committees to control prices of rice in the market.

The monitoring committees — four under the food ministry and three under
the food directorate — have been formed to check price hike of food grains,
assist low income groups, keep market price stable and ensure fair price of
food grains to farmers, said a press release of the food ministry today.

The food ministry took the initiative in a bid to check the rising prices
of the staple food in the market through illegal means, said a press release

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder today gave necessary directives to
the officers concerned of the ministry in this regard, said the release.

The committees will inspect the wholesale markets under Dhaka metropolitan
area to monitor prices of rice and flour and submit reports in this regard.

The food minister also ordered to take stern legal actions if anybody tries
to make rice market unstable.

Joint Secretary Kamar Jahan will lead monitoring committee-1 under food
ministry, Deputy Secretary Raina Ahmed will head the committee-2, Deputy
Secretary Md Shamim Hasan will lead Commiittee-3 while Assistant Secretary
Most. Tahmina Khanam the committee-4.

The monitoring committee-1 under Directorate General of Food was formed
headed by Additional Director Reza Mohammad Mohsin, Committee-2 headed by
Senior Instructor Nakib Sad Saiful Islam and Committee-3 headed by Additional
Director Md Amjad Hossain.

Earlier on December 1, 2019, the government opened a control room and
special monitoring team which are still functioning to keep price of rice at
