DHAKA, Jan 29, 2019 (BSS) – Language Movement veteran, Liberation War
researcher and Islamic scholar Imam Lokman Ahmed Amimi was laid to eternal
rest following Asr prayers today at Mohammadpur graveyard, a day after he
died due to old age complication at the age of 92.

A large number of admirers, disciples and students joined his namaj-e-
janaza held at the Mohammadpur Jame Mosque, where he was serving as its
khatib and imam until his death since 1963.

Amimi, who earlier worked as a religion teacher at Dhaka Residential Model
School for long 25 years until 1996, is survived by a son, serving in a high
position in US federal government, and a daughter, who is a doctor by
profession.

He is the author and translator of a number of books on religion and
spirituality while he earned a repute of being a 1971 Liberation War
researcher and 1952 Language Movement, being a veteran himself, and wrote
several books on those two major national events.

Different national dailies and journals also carried his articles on
religion, the Language Movement and the Liberation War at different times.

Amimi pursued his academic studies in Dhaka Alia Madrasah while he later
studied on indigenous medicine and treatment from the then Tibbia Habibia
College and served as the honorary imam of Dhaka’s historic Musa Kha Mosque
from 1946-1963.

The Language Movement veteran breathed his last early yesterday at
Dhanmondi’s Popular Hospital.
