JS passes BKSP bill for development of sports

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 28, 2020 (BSS) – Parliament on Tuesday passed Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan Bill, 2019 with a view to make a time befitting act through abolishing the existing ‘Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan(BKSP) Ordinance 1983.

State Minister for Youth and Sports M Zahid Ahsan Rasel piloted the bill in the House, Later,
the bill was passed by a voice votes after Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, who was in the
chair at that time, moved it for voting.

“It is necessary to enactment a new law as the effectiveness of the ordinance already has been
null and void with the cancellation of the seventh amendment of the constitution by the Supreme
Court in 2011,” according to the bill.

Placing the bill, the state minister said it is necessary to enact a time befitting act for the
operation of the BKSP.

“The proposed BKSP bill will help to further develop the sports of the country,” said opposition
Jatiya Party lawmaker Raushan Ara Mannan while discussing on the bill.

Earlier, the cabinet has approved the draft law of ‘Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan Act
2019’ (BKSP 2019) on March 2019.

“Everything in the draft law is almost like the ordinance of 1983. Some changes have been made
in section 5 of the law,” it said.

Prior to this, the bill was sent to the concerned parliamentary standing committee for scrutiny the
bill within two months.

Jatiya Party lawmakers Fakhrul Imam, Pir Fazlur Rahman, Mujibul Haq, BNP lawmakers Rumin
Farhana and Harunur Rashid took part in the discussion on the bill.
