RAJUK to implement urban redevelopment project for old city : Rezaul
SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 27, 2020 (BSS) – Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha( RAJUK) has taken initiative for implementing the Urban Re-development project aiming to resolve the existing civic problem of the old part of the Dhaka city.
“The RAJUK has taken initiative for implementing the Urban Re-development project to resolve the civic anomaly prevailing at the old part of the capital city and programme to this end is now underway,” said the minister while responding to a star marked question made by treasury bench lawmaker M Abdul Latif of Chattagram-11 during the question-answer session in the House here.
Primarily, the Rajuk has identified seven places–Islambagh, Chakbazar, Moulvibazar, Bangsal, Hazaribagh, Kamrangirchar and Lalabagh of the old city under the plan, he said. The programme for preparing terms of reference to conduct feasibility study is now underway, Karim added.
As the concept of the urban redevelopment project is new in the country, so the coordination with the foreign companies is underway for getting necessary technical and financial support to this end, said the minister.
In addition to this, action plan has been taken to develop the Hazaribagh tannery area as a planned area and the concept paper and implementation strategy of the Urban Redevelopment project has been included in the ongoing Detailed Area Plan (DAP) run by the RAJUK for the period of (2016-35).
