President to attend CoU convocation tomorrow

DHAKA, Jan 26, 2020 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid will attend the
first convocation of Cumilla University (CoU) tomorrow afternoon.

The President is expected to join the convocation of Cumilla University at
3 pm tomorrow, his Press Secretary M Journal Abedin told BSS this evening.

Abdul Hamid, also the Chancellor of the university, will preside over the
event to be held at the central playground on CoU campus here.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, MP, will deliver his speech as the
convocation speaker on the occasion, where a total 2,888 students, including
3,561 graduates, will be conferred with degrees.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, MP, University
Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Dr Kazi Shahidullah and CoU Vice-
Chancellor Professor Dr Emran Kabir Chowdhury will also take part in the
event.

National leaders, lawmakers, secretaries concerned to the President, vice-
chancellors of different university and senior civil and military officials,
among others, are expected to attend the convocation.

The CoU VC told BSS that a total of 14 gold medals and 52 dean awards will
be given to the students for their outstanding academic performance and
contributions.

As a public university, the CoU started its functions in 2006. The
university was constructed on 250 acres (100 ha) of land at Shalban Vihara,
Moynamoti in Cumilla. A festive mood, amid tight security measures, is
prevailing on the campus and its adjacent areas centering the convocation.

In the meantime, teachers and students of CoU have already collected their
invitation cards and academic costume, our Cumilla Correspondent reported.
