‘Khaleda being treated with utmost sincerity’

DHAKA, Jan 26, 2020 (BSS) – BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is being
treated with utmost sincerity as a patient without considering her political
or personal identities.

“A medical board has been working relentlessly and sincerely to provide
Khaleda Zia the best treatment here putting aside all her identities,” said a
press release sent by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU)
Director Brig Gen AK Mahbubul Haque here today.

All previous information and statements regarding Khaleda Zia’s treatment
released or aired in media were media’s individual perception; there is no
connection between media and medical board’s statements, the release added.

Mentioning Khaleda’s knee-replacement operation conducted on both her
knees in 2009 and 2012, the release informed that she (Khaleda) was advised
by medical board to take time-befitting medicines along with advanced medical
care in order to reduce her arthritis pain.

Her health condition is not improving as per expectation in the last
several months as she has not paid heed to the advices given by the medical
board for relief from the arthritis pain, the release added.

In fact, the board frequently requests Begum Zia to follow their advices,
but she does not listen to them, the release added.

However, her physical complications in term of dental pain and diabetes
have improved significantly in the last 10 months (approximately).

Currently, she is undergoing treatment at the BSMMU under a medical board
comprising seven-member experts, including eminent Prof Syed Atqiul Haq of
rheumatology department at BSMMU and Zilon Mia Sarker, dean of the faculty of
medicine at the university.

Besides, as per the wish of Khaleda Zia, Associate Prof Shamim Ahmed of
rheumatology department and her personal physician Dr Mamunur Rahman are
regularly taking care of her health consulting with medical board, the
release informed.
