Bangladesh China mission opens hotline as virus outbreak

DHAKA, Jan 25, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Embassy in Beijing has opened a 24-hour hotline to reach out expatriate Bangladeshis if they need any emergency support due to outbreak of coronavirus in China.

The hotline number is +86 178-0111-6005 and it has been circulated to Bangladeshi expatriates, especially students and researchers residing across the China, a foreign ministry press release said here today.

Mentioning that there are about 300 to 400 Bangladeshi students are now in Wuhan, the virus epicenter, the release said Bangladesh Embassy in Beijing is in touch with them.

As of today, it said, “no news of any infection or death caused by coronavirus to any foreigners is reported”.

The release said Bangladesh mission has established contact with Chinese foreign ministry so that emergency support can be provided to Bangladesh expatriates in Wuhan, if required.

Bangladesh embassy officials have been maintaining day to day contact with Chinese foreign ministry with regard to safety of Bangladesh expatriates in China, it added.

In the outbreak of the deadly virus, Chinese officials have restricted transport in at least 13 cities besides Wuhan, locking down close to 56 million nationals while the death toll rose to 41.
