‘Community policing stressed for building peaceful society’

RANGPUR, Jan 25, 2020 (BSS) – Police Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan
Police (RpMP) Md Abdul Alim Mahmud today stressed the need for strengthening
of community policing activities to bridge police and people for ensuring
sustainable peace in the society.

“Community policing is crucial to enhance interaction, mutual confidence
and understanding between police and people to prevent crimes for building a
peaceful society for accelerating national development,” he said.

Alim was addressing a views-exchange meeting of Rangpur Metropolitan
Community Policing Committee at Metropolitan Police Lines hall room in the
city as the chief guest.

After elaborate organisational discussions, the meeting unanimously
elected the next two-year term 60-member executive committee of the
organisation on expiry tenure of the first committee.

Presided over by Additional Police Commissioner of RpMP Md. Abu Sufian,
its Deputy Police Commissioner (Headquarters) Mohidul Islam, Deputy Police
Commissioner (Crimes) Kazi Muttaki Ibne Minan, its Police Super (City SB)
Shamima Pervin, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (Headquarters)
Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (Crime) Md. Shahidullah Kawsar,
Assistant Police Commissioner (Kotwali Zone) Jamir Uddin and other police
officials attended the event.

Outgoing President of Rangpur Metropolitan Community Policing Committee
Idris Ali and General Secretary Shushanto Bhowmick delivered speeches
narrating tremendous successes achieved during their tenure in running the
organisation.

Later, the meeting elected freedom fighter and former Commander of Rangpur
district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Mosaddek Hossain Bablu and
Golam Zakaria Pinto as the new President and General Secretary respectively
for the 2020-2021 term.

The RpMP Chief put stress on ensuring better coordination among police and
members of community policing committee to resolve local problems, conflicts
and minor disputes locally with assistance of common people.

He called upon members of community policing committee to engage
spontaneous efforts, involving common people, and extend full cooperation to
police in preventing social crimes, terrorism and militancy.
