Students’ cabinet formed in 4,268 inst. in Rajshahi div

RAJSHAHI, Jan 25, 2020 (BSS)- Students Cabinets have been formed in 2,765
secondary schools and 1,503 madrasas with direct voting in all eight
districts under Rajshahi division today to make the students respectful
toward democratic practice and values from their student life.

The government took the initiative to form an eight-member ‘Student Cabinet’
comprising one head of representatives and seven cabinet members in every
secondary schools and madrasas.

The responsibility of the student cabinets are preservation of environment,
nature , sports, health, cultural programmes, tree plantation, observation of
national and other important days .

Deputy Director of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education Dr
Shormin Ferdous Chowdhury told BSS that a total of 34,144 representatives
have elected cabinet members successfully.

She said the students performed as Election Commissioner, presiding officers,
polling officers and security personnel during elections held from 9 am to 2
pm without any intermission.

Around 95 percent students took part in the election process.

The first meeting of the cabinet will be held within a week where associate
members will be selected and an annual action plan will be formulated.

Dr Shormin Chowdhury added that the initiative would help the students to
understand the ideas of democracy and opinions of others, helping teachers to
curb dropout rates at the educational institutions.

As a whole, the student council will help maintain healthy atmosphere in the
school and try to make irregular student regular through counseling.

The electioneering students told the visiting journalists that they will be
capable of taking the country’s democratic practice forward after best uses
of their knowledge of leadership, resulted from the educational institutions.
