DHAKA, Jan 23, 2020 (BSS) – The Dhaka University (DU) will confer a doctorate of laws on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman(posthumously) marking the celebration of ‘Mujib Borsho’.
The degree will be awarded to Bangabandhu through a special convocation to be held on September 20, 2020 marking the Mujib Year, said a press release.
The decision was taken at a meeting of ‘Mujib Year Celebration Committee’ today with Vice Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.
Nobel laureate economist Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee will deliver the keynote speech in the convocation.
In the meeting, they also discussed about the progress of some ongoing projects, being implemented marking ‘Mujib Borsho’ which include building sculpture of Bangabandhu, founding Bangabandhu Research Institute for Peace and Liberty, organising International conference and publishing a book titled ‘Bangabandhu and Dhaka University’.
Bangabandhu will be given the degree as he was a student of the university’s Law Department.
