GAIBANDHA, Jan 16, 2020 (BSS) – A Gaibandha court today sentenced three people to death for killing a school student after his abduction in 2015.
District and Sessions Judge of Gaibandha Dilip Kumar Bhowmik announced the verdict.
The court also jailed eight people in the case for five years in jail and each of convicts has been fined Taka 100,000, in default, they have to face six months of jail.
Ashiqur Rahman Shamya, 14, son of Ataur Rahman Sarkar, General Secretary of Gobindaganj upazila unit of Awami League and Gobindaganj pourasava mayor, was kidnapped on September 24, 2015.
Following his abduction, police recovered the ninth-grader’s body with his hands and feet tied up.
The three convicted of the capital punishment are Shahariar Sarkar Hridoy, Rakibul Hasan Sajib and Mahmudul Hasan Zakir, who all hail from Gobindaganj Upazila.
All the convicts were present in court for the judgment.
According to the case statement, body of Shamya was found in a septic tank at a community centre in Bardhankuthhi Bot Tola a day after he was kidnapped.
Shamya’s father filed a case with Gobindaganj Police Station against 11 people.
Police pressed formal charges in the case on Mar 11, 2016 and the court recorded the testimonies of 19 witnesses.
