Case against rail passengers for violating travelling laws

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 16, 2020 (BSS) – Twenty four suits lodged accusing 84 rail passengers in last nine months for travelling and riding over train roofs at Chattogram Rail station by railway security force (RSB).

Besides, eight persons were convicted for alleged ticket black marketing and 50 tickets recovered from the ticket blackers during the period.

Railway sources said 21 cases have been lodged in between April to December last and three lodged in current month for travelling on train roof.

Chief Inspector of RSB Amanullah Aman told BSS that 37 alleged train passengers were sent to court accusing under Railway Act of 1890 in October last.

Besides, 230 passengers were detained in September last for travelling without tickets and penalty of Tk.15,170 were realized from them.

In that month, Railway East Zone authority conducted 28 drives including eviction of illegal possession of railway land.

Amanullah Aman told BSS that any passenger travels riding on the roof or help others to travel in same way will be liable for one year’s imprisonment.

On the other hand drives against travelling without tickets are continuing every day. About Tk. 85 thousand was realized from the passengers travelling without ticket during the period.
