RCC opens street-crossing lighting and beautification works
RAJSHAHI, June 8, 2018 (BSS)- Works of street-crossing lighting is
progressing fast in the city aims at bringing those under lighting coverage
through installing need based lights and other instruments.
In the preliminary stage, nine crossings will be brought under the
energy-saving lighting infrastructures at a cost of around Taka 2.75 crore.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) is implementing the uplift works under
its ‘Beautification of Different Important Crossings of Rajshahi City through
Lighting Works’ project.
City Mayor Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul revealed this while inaugurating
the lighting works at Gourhanga crossing in the city yesterday as chief
guest.
He said such type of five projects will be implemented in the city in
the years to come.
“We have started installing solar street light and LED lights in the
metropolis for eco-friendly infrastructural improvement and to lessen the
gradually increasing pressure on electricity.
Under the project of Solar Street Light, the city corporation will
install two kilometers solar street light and 27 kilometer LED light in the
preliminary stage.
The city dwellers are going to avail the privileges of solar street
light for elevating their living and livelihood condition.
On completion of the installation works, this will supplement the
promotional activities of more eco-friendly infrastructures for the slum
communities.
The initiative, no doubt, will contribute to lessening pressure on using
fossil fuel to some extent, Mayor Bulbul opined.
Bulbul also said physical infrastructure works of footpath and road
construction are underway in the city with the main thrust of making its
pedestrian movement unhindered together with ensuring a clean environment.
“We are constructing 20 kilometers of footpaths with financial support
from Indian government”, he added.
