SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 16, 2020 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque today assured the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that the onion price would come down to a tolerable level soon as the country is expecting a bumper onion production in current robi season.

“You have already come to know that India has withdrawn ban on onion import. So, the onion
price will never stay at Taka 110 in any condition. I am confident that the onion price will come down to a tolerable level soon,” he said.

Razzaque was replying to a supplementary question made by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker
Shirin Akhter in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Earlier, replying to a starred question made by treasury bench lawmaker Md Ayeen Uddin, the
agricultural minister said there will be no crisis of onion in the country in the next year as “We” expect that about 23 to 24 lakh metric tonnes onion will be produced this season.

The onion price was skyrocketed as the India banned onion export after facing a setback in onion production due to heavy downpour.
