Production of quality seeds stressed to enhance cultivation

RANGPUR, Jan 16, 2020 (BSS) – Agriculturists at a review discussion have
stressed the need for producing quality seeds of pulses, oils and spices for
enhancing cultivation and output of these essential crops to meet local
demand with own production.

They expressed the view at the discussion arranged in a farmers’ field day
event organised by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) at village
Kuthipara in Soyar union of Taraganj upazila in the district yesterday
afternoon.

Over 100 local farmers and public representatives attended the programme
organised under the five-year term ‘Production, Storage and Distribution of
Quality Seeds of Pulses, Oils and Spices at Farmers Level Project’ of the
DAE.

Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan attended the programme as the chief
guest with Deputy Director of the DAE for Rangpur Agriculturist Dr. Md.
Sarwarul Haque in the chair.

Taraganj upazila Chairman Anisur Rahman Litan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md.
Aminul Islam, District Training Officer of the DAE Agriculturist Aftab
Hossain, Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Ashok Kumar Roy and
Additional Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Urmee Tabassum addressed the
event as special guests.

The chief guest, in his speech, urged farmers to make best use of the
project assistance for proper crop diversification and utilisation of latest
technologies to increase farming of pulses, oils and spices to make the
nation elf-reliant on production of these essential crops.
